A Memorable Evening at the Global Business Forum in Banff, Alberta

I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the Global Business Forum in Banff, Alberta, thanks to a gracious invitation from The Honourable Lois Mitchell, whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the Sport Calgary event.

I attended a dinner focused on “The Business of Sport and Culture”. The evening was filled with thought-provoking discussions, but what made it truly special was hearing from industry leaders, including one of my childhood idols, Katriona Layme Dome. Listening to her share insights about her journey and the intersection of sport and culture was inspiring and reminded me how influential sport can be in shaping not only individuals but entire communities.

Throughout the evening, I was fortunate to connect with fascinating individuals who are leaders, innovators, and changemakers in their respective fields. The conversations were enriching, and I left with a deeper understanding of how sport and culture continue to drive economic and social change worldwide.

And let’s not forget the drive to Banff itself! This time of year, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. As I made my way through the mountains, I witnessed the forests transitioning into vibrant hues of yellow and orange, signaling the arrival of fall. Spending time in the mountains always feels grounding and calming—there’s something about being surrounded by nature that brings a sense of peace and clarity.

I am fortunate to live and work on the traditional territories of Treaty 6 and Treaty 7. These lands are the homeland of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, and Nakota Sioux, and many others who have walked this land for generations.
