Celebrating Team Canada: A Memorable Trip to Ottawa (December 3-4, 2024)

On December 3, I flew to Ottawa to participate in a series of Olympic and Paralympic celebrations, moments that will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Team Canada Ring Ceremony

After landing in Ottawa, I checked into the hotel and prepared for the Team Canada Ring Celebration at the stunning Canadian Museum of History. The evening was a heartfelt gathering of Olympians and Paralympians who had competed in Paris.

The ceremony featured inspiring speeches and a special presentation of rings to the athletes. It was a chance to reflect on the incredible journey we shared this past summer and the profound impact the Games had on us, our families, and Canadians everywhere.

Sharing your passion with the world is an extraordinary privilege, and I’m deeply moved by how many people connected with my story. Hearing from those who say my experiences—especially as a Momma to Poppy—resonated with them or gave them hope is incredibly humbling.

Breakfast and Parliament Hill

The following morning, December 4, began with breakfast alongside fellow athletes. We then boarded buses to Parliament Hill, where our first stop was a luncheon at the Sir John A. Macdonald Building.

During the luncheon, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined us for a group photo and took the time to meet many of the athletes. We also heard thoughtful remarks from the Prime Minister, Minister Carla Qualtrough, and leaders from the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC).

The event was a wonderful opportunity to engage with members of the Government of Canada and connect with local leaders who have supported our journeys as athletes.

House of Commons Recognition

After lunch, we visited the House of Commons, where we were warmly applauded and recognized by government leaders. It was an honor to receive such acknowledgment and to represent the dedication and passion of Team Canada.

Heading Home

Following the ceremony, I headed straight to the airport to return home, reflecting on the whirlwind of gratitude, pride, and connection I experienced over those two days.

This trip reminded me of the power of sport—not just as a personal passion but as a unifying force that inspires and connects communities. I’m endlessly grateful for the chance to live my dream and to share it with others, knowing that our journeys as athletes can resonate far beyond the competition.

I am fortunate to live and work on the traditional territories of Treaty 6 and Treaty 7. These lands are the homeland of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, and Nakota Sioux, and many others who have walked this land for generations.
