A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to collaborate and team up with CT Jumpstart Charities on a few exciting initiatives.. One of which was their inspiring girls-in-sport conference, Play to Lead, held in Halifax. I was honored to be the keynote speaker on the first evening.
The energy in the room was contagious, with nearly 50 talented young athletes from all corners of Nova Scotia coming together for this amazing initiative. From what I was able to witness from the conference, it was clear that these girls were not only having fun but also gaining valuable insights and confidence as they explored the power of sport.
During my keynote, I shared my journey as an athlete, diving into topics like my Olympic experience, the importance of resiliency, and values-based leadership—all lessons that have shaped me both on and off the court. Connecting with these young athletes and seeing their enthusiasm reaffirmed how transformative sport can be for building confidence, leadership, and unity.
Beyond the conference, I had the chance to explore the beautiful city of Halifax. Staying in the Dalhousie area, I found it very charming, and was able to experience the local shops, the stunning harbor views, and, of course, the delicious seafood (particularly delicious when coming from the prairies). I don’t get to experience the east coast of Canada often, and I can’t wait to return.
Although a planned visit to a local elementary school was postponed, I’m hopeful for another opportunity to come back—this time with Poppy—and soak in even more of what this vibrant, friendly city has to offer.
