HALF COURT HOOPS

Through the Half Court Hoops program, Paige will visit schools, spending 75 minutes with students. This time will include 60 minutes of basketball instruction, followed by a 15-minute workshop where athletes share their experiences and insights. Additionally, Paige will provide five specialized 3x3 basketball lesson plans to support educators in delivering a comprehensive basketball unit in their physical education classes.

WHY?
Half Court Hoops is not just about teaching basketball—it’s about bringing an Olympic experience directly to the youth of Canada, blending physical activity with inspiration and mentorship. The importance of this program lies in its ability to:
-
Promote Physical Health: Students will engage in 60 minutes of dynamic, games-centered physical exercise, fostering an enjoyable and inclusive environment for all participants.
-
Inspire Through Olympic Role Models: Students will hear firsthand from Olympic athletes about crucial topics such as the benefits of sport, leadership, time management, holistic wellness, mental wellbeing, and the importance of girls in sports.
-
Encourage Long-Term Participation in Sports: Particularly for girls, who statistically drop out of sports at a higher rate by adolescence, this program offers positive, healthy role models in sports and leadership. By building confidence through practice and providing strong female representation, Half Court Hoops aims to increase the retention and participation of girls in sports, addressing a critical gap highlighted by Women and Sport Canada.

WHERE?
HCH will prioritize visits to 20-30 schools in economically disadvantaged, rural, and Indigenous communities, ensuring that those who might benefit the most have access to this unique opportunity. Schools can request a visit through an online portal, which will open on September 15, 2024.
